The book provides the most detailed treatment so far of the Madrasas and other learning institutions in Jerusalem . These are, in all, 70 Madrasas, 40 Zawiyas, 8 Khanqas, 7 Ribats and 9 Maktabas. In addition to traditional literature many original documents, both in Jerusalem and Istanbul were consulted. The buildings themselves were inspected and described and many inscriptions were recorded. There is a general map of the Madrasas etc. and a detailed index.
